Stroke Statistics
The following research was conducted in an effort to address a global need within the medical field. There is currently no cost effective and efficient method of screening for Carotid Artery Disease (CAD), the leading indicator of Ischemic Stroke. Based on the statistical information presented, the Infrasonic Device is poised to fill this need and have a global impact, which will save millions of lives and billions of dollars when deployed properly.
The US Problem
- Fourth leading cause of death: Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (Ovbiagele, et al, 2013)

The Global Problem
- Number of first Stokes estimated globally each year: 16,900,000 (Lancet, Vol 383, Jan 18, 2014)
- 10% worldwide deaths (52,769,700) due to stroke (Lancet, Vol 383, Jan 18 2014)
- 80% of all stroke victims live in low and mid-income countries (Truelsen, T., et al, 2007)
- Stroke is leading cause of death for people > 60 years. (Mackay, J. et al, 2004). Third cause of death worldwide for all ages.
- Stroke is leading cause of disability (Feigin, V.L., et al, 2010)
- Estimated Stoke outcomes globally: 50% some degree of physical or cognitive impairment (Leys, D., et al 2005)
